Handcrafted, circa 1970s this is a good gauge of sterling silver with beautiful mixed stone inlay of spiny oyster, mother of pearl, onyx and turquoise in a rising sun style design. Sure setting with ornate sides, nicely made - unique vintage ring. Purchased as Native American, Zuni made but the the band sides are unusual for such a piece - either way, nice quality handmade 70s ring.

About this Piece

Sterling Silver

Sterling is an alloy of silver containing at least 92.5% pure silver (925 parts of 1000 thus the 925 stamp), the remainder is made up of a mix of metals (most commonly copper) used to make the metal workable. Pure silver is generally considered too soft to work with, although you can find silver jewellery at 950 or 980, even the occasional 99.9% fine silver, which can be work-hardened to increase durability.

Turquoise

Turquoise is a mineral that occurs when water containing elements like copper and aluminium leach through rock. It's vivid blue-green colour is decided by the level of elements, more copper produces a greener colour, more zinc a yellower tone. It is a porous stone so to keep it looking beautiful for a long time avoid temperature swings, chemicals, cosmetics, perfumes and ultrasonic cleaners.
