$119.00

Amazing medium sized glass disk bead necklace. Handcrafted deep blue, yellow and white beads with a delicate and detailed pattern. The clasp is a lovely sterling silver and enamel fish box clasp, fittings are all sterling silver. This is a stunning bead, the pattern is detailed and delicately made. These necklaces look fantastic with a few on together in different patterns.

The beads are hand made vintage recycled-glass beads from Ghana, Africa. Krobo beads‬ are ‪handmade‬ from recycled glass bottles; broken into chips or ground to a fine powder in a mortar and pestle, they are kiln fired in clay moulds, hand decorated in layers and fired between each layer, so each bead is a slightly different shape and pattern. These necklaces are newly strung on sturdy c-lon with a new sterling silver tab clasp.

About this Piece

Krobo Beads

These ‪‎vintage‬ ‪glass ‪beads‬ are ‪handmade‬ in Ghana from recycled glass bottles; broken into chips or ground to a fine powder in a mortar and pestle, they are kiln fired in clay moulds with a stick at their centre which burns away during the firing but leaves a hole in the centre for threading. They are hand decorated either with various coloured dyed glass chips or hand painted and fired again. Each bead is a slightly different size, shape and pattern. Ghana has a long history with trade beads, sadly many of their valuable antique trade beads have been taken from the country but the bead making is a strong tradition - lucky for the world of bead lovers!
