Large and spectacular, hand carved tigers eye necklace. Circa 1970, this large pendant is a very detailed carved dragon, the incredible colour depth of the tigers eye changes from a luminescent caramel to deep chocolate as it catches the light. Three strands of smooth tigers eye beads make up the necklace, they are all hand knotted and do up with a sterling silver lobster clasp. The colour is quite spectacular in person.

Condition Report

Spectacular vintage condition. Shows mild wear commensurate with age, there is one pin head size rough patch on bottom edge of stone, it has been polished so it clearly is at time of hand carving rather than a chip, will come with some patina, as level of polish is a matter of taste. Has a handcrafted look to it - amazing vintage necklace.

About this Piece

Sterling Silver

Sterling is an alloy of silver containing at least 92.5% pure silver (925 parts of 1000 thus the 925 stamp), the remainder is made up of a mix of metals (most commonly copper) used to make the metal workable. Pure silver is generally considered too soft to work with, although you can find silver jewellery at 950 or 980, even the occasional 99.9% fine silver, which can be work-hardened to increase durability.

Tiger's Eye

A semi-precious yellow-brown banded quartz with a silky lustre, so called because of it's similarity to a tigers eye.
